Acupuncture...
Acupuncture is a very old therapy technique. Many studies have shown it to be quite useful in treating foot and leg pain.
Our acupuncture techniques are known as Western, or, Medical acupuncture and are used for pain relief only. It is possible that we may suggest this therapy as all, or part, of your podiatric treatment.
In this procedure, needles are inserted at individually determined points of the body where they are left for a while. During this period you should attempt to relax. We use only high quality, disposable sterile needles.
You may feel quite relaxed during, or after your treatment. You may experience other sensations, such as feeling hot or cold. Any sensations you have during or just following treatment should be reported to your podiatrist, in order that they can adjust your "dose" accordingly, or take appropriate action. A full assessment will be given and it is important that you give the podiatrist a full medical history to ensure that acupuncture is a suitable treatment for you.
Pain in the foot and ankle can frequently respond to acupuncture. In general it is a painless process, but when discomfort does occur, it is far less than an ordinary injection and usually lasts only a moment. Generally, podiatric acupuncture has minimal risks and precautions are always observed.
There are various foot and leg conditions that may respond to acupuncture. If you are interested we can explain these to you.
